In case you’re wondering…
“Realize that everything connects to everything else.” - Leonardo da Vinci
My work is a compilation of human experiences, stories shared with me by others, as well as my own personal journey. Some of those are expressed through commissioned works, some are pieces that I consider “statement” pieces, that lend a visual to my voice, and some are simply for joy of creating something beautiful, peaceful. My representation style, a result of years spent as an Illustrator in both traditional and digital media, is my preferred method of connecting with others through my work, and where I enjoy the technical challenge of creating realism. Through a literal and recognizable interpretation of a subject, I seek to foster emotional connection between the viewer and the piece.
As a child, I was captivated and inspired by Renaissance art. I studied the Masters from an early age, taking out library books and copying the paintings. I attended Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and graduated with a degree in Illustration. My professional career spanned freelance Illustrator, to gaming graphics and animation, software design, website design, corporate presentation and events to graphic design and print work.
Applying my creative skills in such ways while lucrative, did not offer me the opportunity to create the work that inspired me to move in that direction. I did not paint for a very. long. time.
Then one Summer, I drove passed an artist painting on a hill, while the sun was setting and the sky was brilliant, the grass intense green, on my way home from an office job that I thought would be the death of me. It could bring me to tears, and I’d long to be them. Standing in their shoes. Sillouetted against that setting sun. I knew then my return was inevitable.
And it was. That was almost 15 years ago.
I hope my work speaks to you, connects with you. Gives you a space to step into, a memory to share, to relate to that maybe you’d forgotten. You see yourself in it, even if only for a meaningful, fleeting moment.
